*MCGS is no longer accepting genealogy requests and sadly we have made the decision for our organization to close the doors!
The Historical society will take over all of our collections, to keep them safe, but, they won’t be available for public use.
They also won’t be doing genealogy requests. We are sad to see this happen; however, we really don’t have the funds to remain open.
Additionally, we just didn’t have the volunteer support. Many thanks for all who have supported us through the years.

Where is Montour County, anyway? Covering just 131 square miles, we are located in central Pennsylvania along the banks of the Susquehanna River approximately 70 miles north of Harrisburg. Lycoming County is to the north, Northumberland County is to the west and south, and Columbia County is on the east. The borough of Danville is the county seat. The first photo on top is the view of Danville from across the Susquehanna in Riverside, taken in May 2012. The second is of the Thomas Beaver Public Library, home of Montour County Genealogical Society. Click on the Resources tabs for more information on county & township history or for an outline map of the townships. Be sure to check out the additional links within the Resources tab for old maps.
